Do you love sunflowers? If you do, then I have a beautiful DIY sunflower suncatcher craft for you! These suncatchers are not only simple to make but they are gorgeous too. With summer almost gone, let’s get the most out of the rest of summer with this beautiful sunflower suncatcher craft!
With social distancing in place (ugh), you can even make these and deliver them to a loved one so every time they look at it, they will think of you and smile! This is also great for loved ones in nursing homes! Brighten up someone you love, and help them get through a tough day. I know we all have tough days!

You don’t have to use a sunflower, you can use pretty much ANYthing you want and capture it in a suncatcher. Get outside, look around! Get your kids involved too. This is a perfect activity for the whole family to engage in. You can each make a suncatcher OR you can make one together. In this suncatcher, we used a sunflower, but you can use whatever you want!
Here are some ideas of what you can use in your suncatcher:
*Herbs
*Picture you drew
*handwrite a quote or quick letter
*Bugs (only if they are already dead, don’t kill them!!!)
*Blades of grass or leaves
DIY Sunflower Suncatcher Craft For Kids
Here are the supplies you will need, to make your very own suncatcher craft:
*Contact paper
*Scissors
*Embroidery hoop
*Marker or pen
*Nature treasures
Instructions to Make a Sunflower Suncatcher Craft:
Step 1– Trace and cut out two squares of contact paper about 2 inches wider than the diameter of your embroidery hoop. My hoop was 4 inches so I cut two 6”x6” squares. You can adjust for whatever size hoop you choose.
Step 2– Peel the backing from one of the contact squares. Fit it into your embroidery hoop, sticky side up. Keep your outer hoop very loose when fitting to avoid sticking.
Step 3– Apply your nature treasure in whatever pattern you like to the sticky side of the paper.
Step 4– Carefully remove the top ring of the hoop. Peel the backing from the second square of contact paper and apply face down on top of your design, pressing firmly to ensure a good seal.
Step 5– Replace the top ring of your embroidery hoop and tighten. Trim off excess contact paper from the rear of the hoop.
