This year is the first time in my homeschool career that I have three children below the age of 6. I don’t start formal education with my children until they reach grade 1.
Our children are free to play as much as they like when they are so young. That is their work. However, if they want to join us to do “school,” I like to have lots of letter of the week worksheets ready.
My ultimate goal is to have a successful year and sometimes you have to do whatever works.
‘Letter of the Week’ worksheets for little ones
Last year, my four-year-old daughter wanted to do “school” with us. Children at this age don’t have much of an attention span and learn best through play.
At this age, children are working on dexterity and their gross and fine motor skills. Coloring activities, cutting with scissors, and gluing are great for training fine motor skills.
For this reason, I filled a binder with printed activities for my four-year-old. She could do school whenever she pleased.
She worked through the entire binder over the course of the school year and begged me to make her another one for this year.
For this reason, I have put together a basket of Alphabet Books, a binder full of alphabet-themed worksheets, and fun manipulatives for the girls to play with and use when they want to “do school.”

If you have younger children, you will most likely know that keeping them busy while you work with your older children can be a challenge.
Over the years, I have learned to try to be as prepared as possible.
Sometimes they beg to sit at the table with worksheets and if I don’t have anything ready, I scramble to find something, we lose momentum (or a student or two) and end up frustrated.
Even though I don’t do formal learning with my children, I find that they love to play with learning concepts.
Letters and numbers are intriguing and fun for some kids. My daughters love letters, so I ventured to find as many FREE activities involving letters as possible.

Some of the activities require some craft supplies or manipulatives. We’ve had snap cubes since the beginning of our homeschool journey.
Unfortunately, they sat unused until the other day. Now they are getting used again.
